Program Hours & What to Expect
Junior Hikers is being designed as an after-school outdoor program operating Monday through Friday during the regular school week.
On school days, children will be picked up following dismissal and transported to the planned adventure location. Depending on the day, activities may include hiking, nature exploration, outdoor skills, wildlife learning, seasonal activities and time to unwind outdoors after the school day.
Our goal is to provide families with a consistent after-school option while giving children meaningful time outside, opportunities to build confidence and the chance to explore some of the incredible natural spaces around Greater Victoria.
Exact daily pickup and return times will depend on participating schools, transportation routes and the adventure planned for that day. Final program hours will be confirmed with families before enrollment begins.
Pro-D & Full Adventure Days
Junior Hikers also plans to offer extended full-day programming on select school Pro-D days.
These days will allow for longer adventures that may not be possible during regular after-school hours, while also providing families with an option for continued care when school is closed.
Pro-D Adventure Days will be announced in advance and will be subject to available staffing, transportation, program capacity and the planned destination.
Junior Hikers will not operate on every statutory holiday, and scheduled program closures will be communicated to families in advance.
Enrollment & Availability
Junior Hikers is designed around small groups so children have the opportunity to participate, connect with their group and receive meaningful support throughout each adventure.
Monday–Friday full-time enrollment will receive priority when spaces are available, followed by families requesting consistent part-time schedules. This helps us maintain stable groups while planning staffing, transportation and weekly adventures.
Part-time enrollment may be available for one to four recurring days per week. Families can select their preferred days during registration, and we will work to accommodate those requests based on available program spaces.
Because group sizes will be limited, submitting a registration form does not automatically guarantee a space. Families will be contacted to confirm availability, scheduling and final enrollment details before their child’s first day.
If a requested schedule is currently full, families may be offered an alternative schedule or the opportunity to join the Junior Hikers waitlist.
